EWOB FESTIVAL 2010 Press Release

The 13th European World of Bluegrass Festival will be held in Voorthuizen, the Netherlands, on May 13-14-15, 2010.

The EWOB Festival provides a chance for some of the finest bluegrass bands from Europe and the USA & Canada to play side by side for promoters, music agents, radio, and press.  The 3-day EWOB Festival is the both the highlight of the bluegrass year in Europe, and the apex of the month-long European World of Bluegrass, busy weeks of festivals and concerts mostly concentrated in the "Worldwide Bluegrass Month" of May.  The EWOB Festival is always held in the Netherlands (Holland), and generally features 42 bands, including 4-5 guests from the USA & Canada.

Special U.S. guests at EWOB 2010 will include the Kathy Kallick Band, from the San Francisco area; Viper Central, from Vancouver, Canada; the Sharon Cort Band from Nashville, Tennessee; Wayne Taylor and Appaloosa, primarily from the Washington, D.C., area; Hungry Hill, from northwestern Canada; and Grandpa Banana, in a duo with David Thom, from the San Francisco Bay area.  Featured European bands this year include Blackjack, Acousticure, Bluegrass Stuff (with Swiss vocalist Tabea Anderfuhren), Goodwill, Blueland, Ile Auto, G-Runs 'n Roses, Dawgmatic, Rawhide, Springfield, Sidlo, Wyrton, Sunny Side, Blue Velvet Band, Quartier Francais, and many more. On Saturday night you can enjoy the #1 European Bluegrass Band 2009, Downhill Ramblers, from Sweden.

Luthiers and music businesses will be showing their wares at the EWOB Trade Show during the festival. EWOB also features a virtual bluegrass school of workshops that include the various bluegrass instruments, children's programs, bluegrass vocal workshops, professional band workshops, etc. Instructors will even be available for individual private lessons. Bluegrass event promoters, music press, radio DJs, musicians and bluegrass lovers come from around the world to see the bands. And musicians from the far corners of the globe come together to jam at the EWOB Festival, forging new friendships that defy distance, geographic, and political borders.

Over the years, the EWOB stages and CDs have featured Europe's finest bands alongside an impressive array of special guests from the "Bluegrass Homeland" that has included Dan Paisley & the Southern Grass, John Reischman & the Jaybirds, the Chapmans, Kate MacKenzie Band, Bill Clifton & Pick of the Crop, Randy Waller & the Country Gentlemen, Chris Jones & the Night Drivers, Laurie Lewis & her Bluegrass Pals, the Claire Lynch Band, Sally Jones & the Sidewinders, Mike Stevens & Raymond McLain, Hickory Project, Liz Meyer with Nugget, Si Kahn, Andy Owens with Druha Trava, Tammy Fassaert Band, the Abrams Brothers, White Mountain Bluegrass, and many others. In 2003, the European World of Bluegrass Festival received IBMA's coveted "Bluegrass Event of the Year" Award.

But EWOB is much more than a festival! Like IBMA's World of Bluegrass in Nashville, EWOB is a professional trade event that works hard to equip our bands with professional tools to build their careers.  And every year, THE MUSICIANS who play at EWOB choose our most exciting band as the #1 European Bluegrass Band for one year, that the EWOB Festival sends to Nashville to play at IBMA's World of Bluegrass. Come to EWOB 2010, and see bluegrass music in Europe's brightest colors!
